On this journey of faith...

we come from all different backgrounds. We are made up of different ages, cultures, and denominations.

Some of us have recently found the church while others of us have spent our whole lives in the congregation. Still others have journeyed away and have come back.

We are connected on this journey of faith, seeking a deeper commitment to Jesus the Christ, our Savior, Redeemer and Friend, and to each other as the Body of Christ on earth.

Meet our Pastor!

Rev. Mindi Welton-Mitchell became our pastor in September 2012. Mindi was born in Oregon, raised in Alaska, and attended Linfield College in Oregon where she received her Bachelor's degree in Creative Writing before achieving her Master of Divinity degree from Andover Newton Theological School in 2002. Mindi is married to Rev. J.C. Mitchell, a Disciples of Christ minister serving in Bellevue, and they have one son, A.J., who has autism. Mindi served two congregations in Massachusetts and was a hospital chaplain in Oklahoma before coming to Burien.

In addition to being a pastor, Mindi is a writer, retreat leader and a worship resource creator. She blogs at Rev-o-lution and regularly at [D]mergent. Mindi also plays guitar, even in worship on occasion!

An Inclusive Christian Community of Faith

About Burien Community Church

Our Roots...

are American Baptist, but we are a community church. Our history contains the stories of Gregory Heights Baptist Church, which existed at our current location, and Columbia Baptist Church in Seattle.

The two congregations came together in the 1990's, and Burien Community Church emerged in 1996.

We are affiliated with the Evergreen Association of the American Baptist Churches, USA. We are also a member of the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America/Bautistas Por la Paz.
